本周管理学WORKSHOP我们邀请到了来自香港城市大学的杨海滨教授。 时间:周四11.26 10:30 - 12:00 地点:致福轩会议室 TOPIC: Antecedent and Consequence of Corporate PhilanthropyAbstract
In this seminar I will discuss two related studies on corporate philanthropy. The first study investigates whether and how corporate philanthropy (CP) is affected by a firm’s perceived degree of environmental uncertainty in the context of a transition economy. We propose that both regulatory uncertainty and market uncertainty in a transition economy motivate firms to conduct CP. Further, a firm’s political ties and financial performance alleviate its response to environment pressures. We examine above hypotheses using a nation-wide survey of private firms across China. The second study explores the relationship between CP and firm performance, and argues that this relationship could be better captured using an S-curve shape in that either a low or high level of CP will decrease, while a moderate level of CP will increase, firm performance. We further investigate the moderating effect of firm ownership in this relationship. These hypotheses were tested using listed firms in China during the period from 2001 to 2010.
