LEARNING BEHAVIOR AND SUBSEQUENT ENTREPRENEURSHIP OF ENTREPRENEURS WITH PRIOR FAILED EXPERIENCE

Abstract：

Based on the experiential learning theory, we regard business failure in the context of learning as belonging to concrete experience in Kolb’s four-stage learning model. Entrepreneur learning behavior is the approach to realizing the reflection and abstraction of experiential learning. Two kinds of subsequent entrepreneurial behavior, the time interval between business failure and subsequent entrepreneurship as well as the correlation between last and new ventures, are considered as active experimentation of experiential learning. The paper aims to explore the effects of learning behavior and subsequent entrepreneurial behavior on the performance of a new venture. Data collected from 144 Chinese research subjects who experienced business failure and started over again show that the interactions between time interval and learning behavior, as well as the correlation between last and new ventures and learning behavior have a positive effect on subsequent entrepreneurial performance.
