International Trade: A Quantitative Approach

Instructor: Professor Samuel Kortum

Hosting Professor: Professor Miaojie Yu

Professor Kortum is the James Burrows Moffatt Professor of Economics in Department of Economics, Yale University. He is also a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Econometric Society. His research fields are International Economics, Industrial Organization, and Macroeconomics. He has published many influential academic papers on top journals such as Econometrica, American Economic Review, and Journal of Political Economy. He was awarded the Frisch Medal (with Jonathan Eaton) in 2004, and has served as the Editor of Journal of Political Economy during 2008 to 2012.

This course covers models of international trade, with an emphasis on quantitative applications. We will develop theoretical models, evaluate their ability to capture key stylized facts, show how to estimate their parameters, and demonstrate their use in performing policy experiments. The course involves a mix of theory, data, econometrics, and computation.
