Michael Monea

Michael Monea served as the President of Carbon Capture & Storage Initiatives at Saskatchewan Power Corp. from 2011 to 2016. Monea served as Vice President of Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage Project at SaskPower International, Inc. since 2008 to 2011. Prior to his role with SaskPower, he was Senior Vice-president with Canada Capital Energy Corporation. He served as Executive Director of the Petroleum Technology Research Centre at the University of Regina and has held a number of other executive and technical positions in the oil and gas sector.
As a world-leading scientist, research and development is a key component in Mike’s mission to help reduce greenhouse gases through CCS technologies. His oversight of a scale-sized carbon capture test facility has ensured that progress continues to be made with international vendors on post-combustion capture systems. Progress gained in these areas can help reduce costs and advance CCS.
Monea holds professional engineer and geoscientist designations and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Regina.
Established by BHP and SaskPower, the International CCS Knowledge Centre helps advance CCS as a means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
