第三届“北大 - 汇丰经济论坛”

——诺奖得主爱德华·普雷斯科特教授讲演

 

北京大学中国经济研究中心与香港上海汇丰银行出于支持教育事业的共同目标,设立“北大汇丰经济论坛”,香港上海汇丰银行资助北京大学中国经济研究中心每年邀请一位诺贝尔经济学奖得主来北大作专题演讲,面向北大师生及社会有关人士和新闻媒体,旨在促进经济学国际交流和经济改革的发展。

本系列讲座第三讲定于2006年10月31日邀请2004年诺贝尔经济学奖得主爱德华·普雷斯科特(Edward C. Prescott)教授来北大讲演,具体安排如下:

爱德华·普雷斯科特教授简介

 

普雷斯科特教授1940年生于美国纽约州,1967年获卡内基-美隆大学经济学博士学位,现任美国亚利桑那州立大学经济系教授、并担任美国明尼阿波利斯联邦储备银行的研究员。普雷斯科特教授曾执教于明尼苏达大学、芝加哥大学、西北大学、卡内基·梅隆大学等多所美国著名学府,他还曾担任经济动态与控制协会主席、高级经济理论协会主席、Economic Theory主编、以及美国艺术与科学院院士与计量经济学会会员。

普雷斯科特教授的研究领域为宏观经济学、一般均衡理论与应用、收入差别与计量经济学。他长期致力于商业周期分析。普雷斯科特教授近期的研究探讨经济发展的重要问题之一:为何有些国家经济成长,有些国家经济停滞?普雷斯科特教授利用数量方法分析与解释国际间每人所得不均问题。

2004年,由于在经济政策的时效不一致性,以及商业周期驱动力的探讨方面做出的创造性研究,普雷斯科特教授被授予诺贝尔经济学奖(与挪威经济学家芬恩·基德兰德共同获得)。

为促进经济学国际交流、推动经济学研究在中国的进一步发展,北京大学中国经济研究中心与香港上海汇丰银行有限公司驻中国总代表处联合举办《北大汇丰经济论坛》,由汇丰为该论坛提供资助,面向北大师生及社会各界,每年邀请一位诺贝尔经济学奖得主来北大作专题演讲。

 

 

HSBC-PKU Economic Forum

 

In the aim of enhancing international exchange in economics as well as the economic development in China, the China Center for Economic Research (CCER) at Peking University and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) jointly hold the HSBC-PKU Economic Forum, which is sponsored by the HSBC and invite a Nobel Prize laureate in economics to deliver lectures at Peking University every year since 2004.

The second forum will be opened by Professor Edward C. Prescott, the 2004 Nobel laureate in economics and W. P. Carey Chair Professor in Economics at Arizona State University on Oct 31, 2006.

Biography of Professor Edward C. Prescott

Edward C. Prescott studied mathematics at Swarthmore College (B.A., 1962), operations research at Case Western Reserve University (M.S., 1963), and economics at Carnegie Mellon University (Ph.D., 1967).

Prescott is a Professor at Arizona State University''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s W.P. Carey School of Business and the Senior Monetary Advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Since 2005, he has been the Shinshei Bank Visiting Professor at New York University. Before 2003, he has ever taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University and University of Minnesota.

Professor Prescott received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 2004, sharing the award with Finn E. Kydland, for their contributions to dynamic macroeconomics: the time consistency of economic policy and the driving forces behind business cycles.

In addition to winning the Nobel Prize, Prescott was President of the Society of Economic Dynamics and Control and the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, a fellow of the Econometric Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was an editor of several journals, including the International Economic Review and Economic Theory, and his extensive writings covered such wide-ranging topics as business cycles, economic development, general equilibrium theory, and finance.
