北京大学中国经济研究中心与汇丰银行(中国)有限公司出于支持教育事业的共同目标,设立“北大汇丰经济论坛”,汇丰(中国)资助北京大学中国经济研究中心每年邀请一位诺贝尔经济学奖得主来北大作专题演讲,面向北大师生及社会有关人士和新闻媒体,旨在促进经济学国际交流和经济改革的发展。

 

本系列讲座第五期定于2008年12月15日邀请1993年诺贝尔经济学奖得主道格拉斯·诺斯(Douglass C. North)教授来北大讲演,具体安排如下:

道格拉斯·诺斯简介

 

道格拉斯•诺斯,1920年生于美国马萨诸萨州,1942、1952年先后获加利福尼亚大学学士学位和哲学博士学位。曾任《经济史杂志》副主编、美国经济史学协会会长、国民经济研究局董事会董事、东方经济协会会长、西方经济协会会长等职务。历任华盛顿大学经济学教授、剑侨大学庇特美国机构教授、圣路易大学鲁斯法律与自由教授及经济与历史教授,现任华盛顿大学经济系卢斯讲座教授。

    诺斯是新经济史的先驱者、开拓者和抗议者,他开创性地运用新古典经济学和经济计量学来研究经济史问题。他对经济学的贡献主要包括三个方面:用制度经济学的方法来解释历史上的经济增长;重新论证了包括产权制度在内的制度的作用;将新古典经济学中所没有涉及的内容——制度,作为内生变量运用到经济研究中去,特别是将产权制度、意识形态、国家、伦理道德等作为经济演进和经济发展的变量,极大的发展了制度变迁理论。

    鉴于他建立了包括产权理论、国家理论和意识形态理论在内的“制度变迁理论”,1993年获得诺贝尔经济学奖。

为促进经济学国际交流、推动经济学研究在中国的进一步发展,北京大学中国经济研究中心与汇丰银行(中国)有限公司联合举办《北大汇丰经济论坛》,由汇丰中国为该论坛提供资助,面向北大师生及社会各界,每年邀请一位诺贝尔经济学奖得主来北大作专题演讲。

In the aim of enhancing international exchange in economics as well as the economic development in China, the China Center for Economic Research (CCER) at Peking University and the HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited (HSBC China) jointly hold the HSBC-PKU Economic Forum, which is sponsored by the HSBC China and invite a Nobel Prize laureate in economics to deliver lectures at Peking University every year since 2004.

 

The fifth forum will be opened by Professor Douglass C. North, the 1993 Nobel laureate in economics and Professor in the Department of Economics at Washington University.

Biography of Professor Douglass C. North

 

Professor Douglass C. North is the professor of history and a fellow of the Center in Political Economy. He was on the faculty of the University of Washington and held visiting chairs at Cambridge and Rice Universities.

In 1993 Professor Douglass C. North was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has served as president of the Economic History Association and the Western Economic Association. His major interest is the evolution of economic and political institutions. The effects of institutions on the development of economies through time is a major emphasis in his work in both economic history and development.

Among his books are The Rise of the Western World (with R. P. Thomas, 2nd edition), 1973, Growth and Welfare in the American Past, 1973, Structure and Change in Economic History, 1981, and Institutions, Institutional Change and Economic Performance, 1990.
