讲座题目:Socially-Initiated vs. Interest-Initiated Collaborations: How Relational Origins Shape Collaborative Innovation Adaptation to AI Shocks
讲座时间:10月14日(周三)上午10:00-12:00
讲座地点:承泽园217
讲座简介:Co-innovation increasingly depends not only on how people collaborate, but also on whether existing collaborations can adapt when new technological opportunities emerge. A large body of research has shown that co-innovation and other forms of collaborative knowledge creation facilitate knowledge sharing, recombination, and orchestration (Fleming, 2001), which further enhances innovation and creative success (Fleming, Mingo, & Chen, 2007). Yet technological change rarely stands still. As new domains rise and existing trajectories are disrupted, the value of a collaborative relationship may depend less on what it has produced in the past than on whether the partners can jointly redirect their efforts into a new domain.
However, despite the thorough inquiry into the formation and implications of collaborative innovation, extant research has devoted far less attention to its adaptation. We know much about why collaborative relationships emerge (Gulati, 1995; Reuer & Devarakonda, 2017), how they shape innovation outcomes (Schilling & Phelps, 2007; Wang, Rodan, Fruin, & Xu, 2014), and when repeated collaboration helps or hinders performance (Hoang & Rothaermel, 2005; Holloway & Parmigiani, 2016). We know much less, however, about whether and how an existing long-term co-innovation relationship can pivot together from one domain to another when the opportunity landscape changes. In particular, we ask: when new technological opportunities emerge, how and when do long-term co-innovation relationships jointly reorient their collaborative activity?
