题目：A Simple Model of the Chinese Hukou System and Some Ongoing Reforms

摘要：This paper argues that an important institutional factor, namely, the Chinese household registration system (Hukou), is to a large extent responsible for the recent boom in Chinese exports. We first document some stylized characteristics of the Hukou system, then build a rigorous model of the dual labor market generated by the Hukou system. The model can explain the fact that rural migrant workers not only made important contributions to China’s export boom, but also changed the Chinese trade pattern. We apply the model to examine various policies and some ongoing reforms such as Special Economic Zones, export-tax refund, urbanization, one-child policy, FDI, etc.

主讲人简介：Professor Laixun Zhao现为日本神户大学（Kobe University）经济学教授，并兼任International Economic Journal副主编和Review of Development Economics特邀主编。他于1993年在美国佛罗里达大学（University of Florida）获得经济学博士学位。Professor Laixun Zhao的研究主要涉及国际经济学、产业经济学和劳动经济学，并在国际一流旗舰经济学期刊如European Economic Review、Journal of International Economics、Journal of Industrial Economics、Journal of Labor Economics、Journal of Urban Economics、Canadian Journal of Economics、Review of International Economics上发表三十余篇学术论文。
