题目：Modes of Foreign Bank Entry and Domestic Bank Efficiency: Evidence from China

摘要：This paper examines the effects of foreign bank participation on cost and profit efficiencies of domestic banks in a developing country based on a sample of 113 Chinese banks over the period 2002-2011. We construct two bank-specific measures of exposure to foreign banks, namely branch presence and minority equity ownership, and test whether these two types of foreign bank exposure and their complementary effect affect the efficiencies of domestic banks. Our results show that (1) the cost efficiency of state-owned commercial banks (SCBs) is only affected by minority foreign ownership. (2) The presence of foreign bank branches decreases profit efficiency of joint-stock commercial banks (JCBs) and city commercial banks (CCBs). (3) There is a complementary effect of two types of foreign bank exposure in improving cost efficiencies of domestic banks, especially CCBs. Further, the complementary effect of two types of foreign bank exposure on cost efficiency is mitigated in the period of recent global financial crisis, but the depressing effect of exposure to foreign bank branches on profit efficiency is robust over time.

主讲人简介：Chun-Yu Ho (何振宇)现为上海交通大学安泰经济与管理学院副教授。何振宇教授本科和研究生毕业于香港科技大学，博士毕业于Boston University；其主要研究领域为产业组织、经济发展和应用计量。何振宇教授拥有极为出色的发表纪录，在Journal of Econometrics, International Economic Review, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Comparative Economics等著名期刊上发表过数十篇论文。
